Originally built as Websters Hotel in 1874 to serve the small village town of South Haven, located directly on the shores of Lake Michigan. Incorporated as a village in 1869, and as a town in 1902, South Haven, soon became one of the top beach resort cities in the U.S.
The first proprietor was E.C. Webster. Throughout the ages the hotel shared its home with many businesses. These included several restaurants (1906-1944), a Western Union (1925), and an ice-cream parlor.
On February 1, 1944 Donald and Elizabeth Nichols purchased the hotel. They changed the name but kept the charm. The lobby still has the original tin ceiling, tile work, lobby desk and staircase. It even has a moving bookcase, that delights children. New owners Joanna and Anna Rajter have continued to maintain the allure of an early day setting with comfortable modern accomodations for their guests.
